Game Result Archive for the 2007 Season

Game CT7    Chaparral 18    Backyard Burgers 17

In this one we were down 4 - 0 after the top of the first.  Then we got the benefit of 6 of our first 7 hitters being walked.  Add in RBI singles by Joe Berry and David Dunn plus a hit by James Songster, two hit batters, and two more walks and the sum was a 10 - 4 lead after one long inning.

In the 2nd, BYB added 4 more runs on 4 hits to draw our lead down to 10 - 8.  David Dunn came to the mound and worked a scoreless 3rd thanks to no small collision at home plate when he tagged out a runner who was attempting to score on a wild pitch.

In our 3rd, we managed 2 runs with base hits by James Songster and Justin Harris to increase our lead to 12 - 8.

In the 4th, David gave up no hits, but a trio of walks and a pair of errors let BYB have 3 runs to make it 12 - 11.  In our 4th, Josh Roberge drew a walk and was able to score from 3rd on a wild pitch to make it 13 - 11.

In the BYB 5th, David allowed a walk and a double and a sac fly for 2 runs that tied the game at 13.  Then in our 5th, Justin Harris singled, Dylan Day drew a walk, and Joe Berry hit an RBI single. Cody Skaggs grounded to 3rd to drive in another run.  Then James Songster, David Dunn, and Taylor Weise hit consecutive singles, but only Joe Berry was able to score and put us up 16 - 13.

Zach Bailey was called back to pitch in the top of the 6th, but had trouble finding the strike zone, so with the score at 16 - 15 and the bases loaded, Cody Skaggs came to the mound.   The first hitter grounded to James Songster at shortstop and we went for the double play, but the relay to first was not in time.  However the runner from second tried to score also but was then gunned down by 1st basemen Joe Berry's throw to catcher David Dunn for the second out of the inning.

So then we headed to the top of the 7th inning knotted at 16.  Cody gave up a double, got a fly out, and then surrendered a hit on which the runner at second attempted to score but was also out at home on a perfect relay from left fielder Taylor Weise to shortstop James Songster to catcher David Dunn.  That hitter eventually scored on a wild pitch and took us to the bottom of the 7th down 17 - 16.

Joe Berry drew a leadoff walk and Cody Skaggs hit a hard one at the third baseman which was misplayed.  David Dunn came to the plate with 2 outs, Joe at 3rd, and Cody at 2nd.  He promptly hit a high and deep fly ball to the left fielder which would decide the game one way or another.  Unfortunately for BYB this night, the left fielder was not able to make the catch, and the game ended as two-time this day Winning Pitcher Cody Skaggs scored the deciding run.

Game CT6    Chaparral 15    Backyard Burgers 14

Wow, what a game!  We found ourselves down 13 - 8 at the start of the sixth inning.  Cody Skaggs was called in to pitch in relief of Zach Bailey and got three straight popups to retire BYB in order.

Six outs from defeat and we needed at least five runs badly.  Josh Roberge started our 6th with a walk, then James Songster reached on an error.  David Dunn singled to load the bases and then Taylor Weise hit a grounder, but the throw to the plate was not in time to get Josh out and everyone was safe.  Devin Hamaker hit a sac fly to centerfield to score JamesZach Bailey drew a one out walk to reload the bases.  Then Justin Harris smacked a 2 RBI single that drove in David and TaylorDylan Day followed with a single to drive in Zach Bailey and Justin scored on a wild pitch.  Cody Skaggs hit a grounder to short that was played to 2nd and allowed Dylan to score our 7th run of the inning to put us up 15 - 13.

Back out for the top of the 7th, we gave up a hit and an error, and then a balk that scored a run as Cody tried make a quick pitch to keep the tying run from reaching second.  The next 2 batters hit ground balls that resulted in 2 outs, but an error allowed the tying run to 3rd base.  The next hitter smashed a one hopper back just left of the pitcher's mound.  But Cody Skaggs was even quicker to make a marvelous backhand stab and complete the toss to first to claim our victory.

Dylan Day led our offense with a double and two singles for 3 RBIs.  Justin Harris scored 4 runs, and had a double and a single for 3 RBIs.  Cody Skaggs also tallied 3 RBIs on a single and two ground balls.

Game CT5    Chaparral 10    Batters Up 1

The 5th game in the City Tournament week usually presents a terrible pitching challenge to a team.  Not so in this case as Zach Bailey and Dylan Day definitely stepped it up a notch!  Zach got the win in very effective fashion striking out 4 over 2 innings allowing no hits or runs.  Dylan came in to pick up exactly where Zach left off, working the final 4 innings that were stopped at least 2 times for lengthy lightning delays.  Dylan allowed just one run on a sac fly, 3 hits, 2 walks, with a pair of strikeouts.

On our side we got some help in the 1st as a walk, a pair of errors and an RBI double by Taylor Weise along with a pair of wild pitches allowed our first 4 hitters to both reach and score.   In our part of the 3rd, we added 3 more on a hit by Devin Hamaker, an RBI double by Zach Bailey, and a big 2 out hit by Justin Harris that drove in a pair of runs. Josh Roberge was hit by a pitch in the 4th and scored on an RBI single by James SongsterTaylor Weise drove in James with his second hit of the afternoon.  In the 6th Cody Skaggs smacked an RBI double.

Game CT4    Chaparral 11    BJ's Best 10

Charisma!!!  was the word of this Saturday evening as the team both learned the definition and how to generate it as we broke a pitcher's duel wide open with a rally for 8 runs on 6 hits in the bottom of the 2nd inning.  This big inning started with consecutive singles by Devin Hamaker, Dylan Day, and Justin Harris followed immediately with a Double by Zach Bailey.  After Zach Bailey reached third on a wild pitch, a fake squeeze play ended up generating a wild pitch that allowed Zach to score.  With one out Josh Roberge got a hit and James Songster reached on an error.  David Dunn followed with a huge 2 run Double. Before the inning ended, the shaken BJ's defense allowed a second pair of errors which let both David Dunn and Devin Hamaker score.

Taylor Weise got a well earned complete game victory, allowing just one hit and 3 walks with 5 K's through the first 4 innings but a trio of defensive errors allowed 2 unearned runs in the 4th inning.  In the top of the 5th, BJs bats came alive when they got 3 hits and 2 walks to start the inning, resulting in 3 earned runs plus one unearned run to tighten the game to a score of 8 - 6 in favor of Chaparral.

Fortunately, our half of the 5th went quite well also as it started with hard hit singles by Zach Bailey and Cody SkaggsJosh Roberge followed with an RBI grounder that was misplayed to allow both Zach to score and Josh to reach safely.  With 2 outs David Dunn hit a hard liner right in front of the leftfielder that drove in Cody Skaggs but also allowed Josh Roberge to score as the ball got through the outfielder and went to the fence.  Little did we know at the time how important those 3 runs scored by our 7-8-9 hitters would soon become.

With just a few minutes to spare on the 2 hour time limit, the 6th inning was started.  An error, a pair of walks, and another error quickly provided BJs with 4 base runners.   To be honest here the umpires helped their cause as one of them was clearly picked off 2nd base by catcher David Dunn, but was somehow ruled safe.  A 2 out single drove in the 9th and 10th runs for BJ's and this potential tying run also reached 3rd base before Taylor closed the door with his 9th strikeout of the contest.

Tired from the late game the previous evening and the early game in the heat of this day, the team showed courage and heart in beating the regular season champions to reach the city tournament semi-final game on Sunday.

Game CT3    Chaparral 10    Evergreen 6

Offense early and often was the key to this Saturday afternoon team victory.  We generated four runs on 2 hits and 4 walks in the 1st inning followed by four more on 4 hits and 2 walks in the 2nd, and our final 2 runs on 2 hits and the 3rd.  On the tally board, Dylan Day led the offense with 3 RBIs on a grounder, a Single and a Triple and 3 runs scored.  Taylor Weise also hit a Single and an RBI Double with 2 runs scored, and Zach Bailey added 2 hits for 2 RBIs.  David Dunn also had a Double and 2 runs scored.

On the hill, James Songster threw 3 innings for the win, allowing 3 hits and 3 walks for just one earned run.  Cody Skaggs hurled the final 2 frames, allowing one hit but no runs in the 4th and 3 earned runs on 3 hits and 2 walks in the 5th.

Game CT2    Chaparral 4    Batters Up 9

This night was so overcast it already seemed dark by our 8:05PM start time.  And dark it was on our attempt to stay in the winner's bracket as we were simply outplayed this evening by a team who wanted it a little more.

Statistically we were outhit just 10 - 8, but we yielded six bases on balls vs. receiving only one while each team made just 2 errors in the field.  The big inning for Batter's Up was the 3rd where they strung together 5 consecutive base hits for 4 runs.

On our side, the 3rd was our best inning when David Dunn reached on an error, Zach Bailey singled, and then James Songster singled to drive in DavidZach Bailey took home on a throw to 2nd and then Justin Harris smacked an RBI double to drive in James.   Our only other scoring was in the 5th when James Songster hit his 2nd single of the evening and was driven in by Taylor Weise's 2nd hit of the night, a ground rule double.     Devin Hamaker and Dylan Day had our other base hits in this contest.

Game CT1    Chaparral 11    Harman Ice  4

Getting runners out on the basepaths was our strong suit this night as the conditions steadily deteriorated due to an increasing amount of rain.

Winning Pitcher James Songster faced just 10 batters over 3 hitless and scoreless innings benefiting from a 1st inning double play by shortstop David Dunn who ranged into right centerfield for a catch followed by a strong throw that retired the runner at first base.   In the 2nd baserunners reached on an error and a walk, but soon after a comebacker fielder's choice, catcher Dylan Day was able to catch a runner between 1st and 2nd which forced the lead runner into a rundown out.  Three consecutive popups gave James a perfect 3rd inning.

Offensively we took command in the bottom of the first with 3 runs on an RBI single by Taylor Weise, a hit by Devin Hamaker, and an RBI grounder by Dylan Day.  In the 2nd, our runners allowed on base by a hit batter, a walk and a pair of errors all scored along with Taylor Weise who hit an RBI double.  Devin Hamaker followed with an RBI single, and Dylan Day hit another RBI grounder.  Taylor Weise and Devin Hamaker again reached in the 4th on errors and scored on wild pitches.  In the 5th, David Dunn doubled and scored for the 3rd time on a ground out by Taylor Weise for his 3rd RBI of the evening.

Game 16    Chaparral 7    Coke  0   (Coke forfeit)

Game 15    Chaparral 7    East TN Rentals (Bobcats)  4

This one started a little ugly as walks to James Songster and David Dunn proved costly when Taylor Weise doubled to drive in a run and Devin Hamaker followed with an RBI single.  Andy Weber was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score Taylor and give us a 3-0 lead.  In the bottom of the first we started with an error, got 2 out, but then made another error to keep the inning going.  A pair of stolen bases and a trio of wild pitches coupled with walk and a hit ended up allowing the Bobcats to knot the score at 3-3.

In the 2nd inning, Justin Harris drew a leadoff walk, David Dunn singled, and Reggi Smith reached on an fielder's choice that failed to get anyone out.  With 2 outs Devin Hamaker reached on an error, and then mighty Joe Berry absolutely crushed a double past the 2nd baseman into right centerfield for 2 RBIs.  With some aggressive base running, we scored 4 runs to make it 7-3.

Zach Bailey got the win, working 2 innings, allowing 2 hits, 2 walks, and striking out 4.  Taylor Weise worked the rest of the six inning contest, allowing only 1 unearned run on 3 hits, 3 walks, while striking out 6.  Attempted Bobcat rallies were shut down in the 4th on an excellent pickoff throw by Taylor Weise to Joe Berry at 1st base for an out.  In the 5th, Taylor took a ground ball and was able to trap a runner off 3rd base.  In the 6th, David Dunn nailed a runner attempting to steal 2nd base.  These plays together preserved the victory this night and clinched for Chaparral a 1st Place 2007 finish in the National League!

Game 14    Chaparral 19    Coke  4

An hour of pre-game batting practice paid off nicely as we brought 15 base knocks to this affair which lasted just 4 innings due to the 15 run rule.  Justin Harris led the charge with a 2 RBI triple, a pair of singles, a walk, and a run scored.  Andy Weber, Dylan Day, and Taylor Weise each added 2 hits and 2 RBIs.  Devin Hamaker had 2 hits and 3 runs scored.  Joe Berry also had a pair of singles.  David Dunn hit an RBI double and scored 3 runs.  And finally James Songster had a hit, 4 stolen bases, and 4 runs scored.  It should also be mentioned that there were several "at 'em" bombs delivered straight at somebody that ended up being recorded as errors.

On our side, Winning Pitcher Devin Hamaker worked two scoreless and hitless innings allowing one walk in the first and two in the second .  In that inning Catcher Taylor Weise picked off one base runner at 3rd and got the other attempting to steal second base.

Justin Harris pitched the third inning, allowing one run with 3 walks but no hits.  Josh Roberge threw the 4th and final inning, allowing 3 runs on 3 hits and a walk with a strikeout and two ground outs.  There was room for some improvement on where and when to throw the ball but congratulations are in order this day to our team's defense this day for playing error free in the field!!!

Game 13    Chaparral 13    American Screen Design 4

Tonight we came to play.

In the first inning, David Dunn singled and Taylor Weise doubled off the fence just 3 feet short of a Home Run.  With 2 outs, Dylan Day brought them both home with a big 2 RBI single.

In the 3rd, David Dunn reached on an error and Taylor Weise hit another double to bring him home.  Later in that inning Taylor scored on Devin Hamaker's RBI double.

In the 5th, James Songster reached on a walk, stole 2nd, and was doubled home by David DunnDavid then scored on the 3rd hit of the night by Taylor Weise

Our 5 run sixth inning started with singles by Cody Skaggs, Andy Weber, and Josh RobergeTaylor Weise came up for the 4th time with bases loaded and delivered his 4th hit for two more RBIs.  Taylor finished the night with 2 doubles, 2 singles, 4 RBIs and 4 runs scored.  David Dunn had a double and a single for 2 RBIs and 4 runs scored.

Defensively Cody Skaggs got the win on the mound working the first 2 innings allowing just 2 hits and 1 unearned run.  James Songster worked the 3rd, allowing a hit and one unearned run.  Taylor Weise threw the final 3 frames, striking out 4 but allowing 2 runs on 3 hits in the 5th.  The highlight of this night was the first out of the 6th inning when Josh Roberge went a long long way from his right field position for a sprinting catch in deep right-centerfield.  Way to go Josh!!!

Game 12    Chaparral 8    McLeod 6

This game was suspending by lightning after 2 innings of play on Tuesday and then resumed for the final 5 innings on Wednesday.  We managed to prevail by a single run on each day: 2-1 on Tuesday and 6-5 on Wednesday.

Taylor Weise worked the first 2 innings on the mound allowing 1 run on a walk and a hit while striking out 4.   Winning Pitcher Devin Hamaker hurled the 3rd and 4th innings allowing just 1 unearned run on 1 hit with 2 walks.  James Songster tossed the 5th and 6th innings, allowing 2 unearned runs on one hit, a walk and two batters hit by pitch.  With 2 on and 2 out in the 6th, David Dunn went way to his right at shortstop for an amazing backhand grab and strong throw to first for the final out of that inning.

In the 7th, with no outs and the tying runs at 2nd and 3rd, Taylor Weise came back to the mound to close the deal.  Then there was an unusual fielder's choice play where we failed to get a runner caught in a rundown, but the batter was called out for passing the preceding runner.  Taylor then got a strikeout and a grounder to end the game and earn the Save.

Our offense was most active in the 5th, when Joe Berry led off with a base hit, and scored on a Dylan Day RBI single.  Dylan then scored on a Justin Harris' RBI double.  In the 6th David Dunn reached on an error, then Devin Hamaker and Taylor Weise got base hits to load the bases.  Joe Berry then came through with a big 2 RBI double, and then Andy Weber hit an RBI grounder to score Taylor Weise.

Game 11    Chaparral 3    Evergreen Terrace 2

This was definitely the game of lost opportunities as the teams combined to leave 16 runners on base in the 4 and 1/2 inning contest.

Winning Pitcher Zach Bailey was effective on the mound for us as he allowed only 1 earned run on 1 hit over 4 innings while striking out 8 and walking 5.

Offensively, we had 3 one run innings:  in the bottom of the first David Dunn drew a 1 out walk and had the steal sign but repeated pickoff attempts proved costly as one sailed into right field and allowed David to take both 2nd and 3rd base.  Devin Hamaker then promptly smacked a sacrifice fly to centerfield for the RBI.  In the 2nd Andy Weber reached on a base hit and after a pair of walks he scored on an RBI single by James SongsterAndy Weber also started our 4th by drawing a walk and advanced to 2nd on a passed ball, and on to 3rd as the catcher overthrew 2nd trying to get Andy.  From there it was another errant pickoff attempt that allowed Andy to score what proved to be the decisive run.

In the final inning, James Songster came on to pitch, got a pop up out and surrendered an infield hit who then ended up reaching 3rd on a stolen base followed by a throwing error.  This runner scored on a ground out to shortstop Zach Bailey.  The next hitter struck out but the pitch got to the backstop allowing the batter to reach 1st.  The next hitter drew a walk which setup some serious two out drama.  The final hitter launched a looping liner into short right field that appeared to have the distance to both fall and score the tying run, but second baseman Cody Skaggs was able to retreat and make a spectacular over the shoulder Willie Mays type catch to save the day!

Game 10    Chaparral 5    East TN Rentals 3

This was a hard fought team victory highlighted by excellent pitching and superior defensive plays in the field.  Taylor Weise got the Win, allowing only 2 base runners in the first 4 innings on an error and a walk, but even they were erased.  In the 2nd inning, shortstop James Songster took a grounder while practically standing on 2nd base for an easy 6U, 6-3 double play.  In the 4th, a hitter was walked, advanced to 2nd on a passed ball, but after getting too big of a lead on the pitch, David Dunn gunned him off 2nd base for a 2-6-5-4 rundown out.  In 6 innings of work, Taylor Weise allowed only 3 hits and 4 walks for 3 earned runs while striking out 6.  In the 5th with 2 runners on base, Joe Berry caught a line drive in left field and nailed a throw to 2nd base that caught a retreating runner for a double play.  In the 6th, after a pair of no out walks, Taylor Weise picked off the 1st base runner for a very important out.  Zach Bailey came on to work the final frame, getting three consecutive K's on the 4-5-6 hitters to seal the win and earn himself a Save.

Offensively, Taylor Weise hit an RBI double in the 1st to score Devin Hamaker from 1st base.  In the 2nd, Andy Weber reached on a walk, advanced on a Justin Harris single and then scored on Zach Bailey's RBI single.  Then with 2 outs, James Songster delivered a big 2 RBI single scoring both Justin Harris and Zach BaileyJoe Berry hit a nice double down the 3rd base line in the 3rd.  In the 5th, James Songster scored on a walk, a balk,  and a pair of wild pitches.  Justin Harris added his 2nd base hit of the evening in the 6th.

Game MT1    Chaparral 8    ASD 9

It's still hard to believe we let this one get away.  We took an 8 - 1 lead into the bottom of the 5th inning and ended up allowing 5 hits and 5 walks, making just 1 error in the scorebook, but several plays just didn't get made and the team got to learn a hard lesson this night.  It's never over 'til it's over.  Every play counts and needs to be made because you never know what could happen next.

Taylor Weise worked 3 no-hit no-run innings for us on the mound striking out 5 and walking 3.

Offensively Dylan Day led our effort with a pair of singles, an RBI, and 2 runs scored.  David Dunn, Devin Hamaker, and James Songster all added doubles.  Taylor Weise and Joe Berry also hit RBI singles.

Game 9    Chaparral 5    Backyard Burgers 9

Two days later with some different pitching our bats cooled as we could only muster singles by the Double D's - Dylan Day and David Dunn.  But with 8 walks and aggressive base running, we did manage to get 5 runs scored.  Justin Harris drew a bases loaded walk for our only RBI of the day.  David Dunn had 2 stolen bases, and Zach Bailey and Justin Harris each added one stolen base to our offense.

Zach Bailey threw the complete 6 inning game for us on the mound, walking just 4, striking out 6, but surrendering 9 base hits and 6 earned runs.

The stolen base was also a weapon of choice for our opponents this day they racked up 13.

We did add some excitement in the top of the 4th when David Dunn took a grounder at shortstop and gunned down a runner at home plate with a throw to Dylan Day.  Immediately after this action the ball was carried to Zach Bailey on the mound and the runner on 3rd sensed an opportunity to score, but Dylan Day was able to get back to home to tag this one out too!

Game 8    Chaparral 8    Batter's Up 4

The story of this night was Taylor Weise who allowed only 3 hits, 4 walks/hbs for 2 runs over 6 innings of work for a nice win.  The other item of note is that we had 18 base hits in 38 at bats to post an amazing team batting average of .474 for the game.

Taylor Weise also added 3 hits, an RBI, and a run scored to our offensive effort.  Cody Skaggs had 3 hits and 2 runs scored.  Andy Weber also had 3 base hits.  James Songster added 2 hits, an RBI and a run scored.  Josh Roberge also added 2 hits.  Joe Berry, David Dunn, and Justin Harris all contributed RBI doubles to our cause.

All 10 players present this night had at least one base hit.

Game 7    Chaparral 9    Greg's Pizza 12

Ouch... we had ourselves in position to win this one.  In fact we had the game ending run on third base in the form of Reggi Smith with one out in the bottom of the 6th with time expired and the scored knotted at 8-8.  Coach elected to go with a squeeze play on a 0-1 count but the low pitch was too difficult to bunt and Reggi was barely tagged out at the plate which kept the game going into the 7th and final inning.  In the 7th we didn't allow a base hit, but 5 walks and one error ended up allowing 4 runs to score.  In our half we could only match with 1 run on 2 walks to come up short in this exciting game.

David Dunn led our offense with two base hits.

Justin Harris added a two run triple in our 5 run 5th inning.  Devin Hamaker also had an RBI single in that frame.

Dylan Day and Reggi Smith collected our other base hits on this night.

On the mound, Dylan Day worked 3 innings allowing 4 runs on 5 hits and 3 walks.  James Songster hurled the next 3 innings also allowing 4 runs on 5 hits with 4 walks.  Taylor Weise took the loss in the 7th inning as the strikes just wouldn't come this night.

Game 4 Makeup     Chaparral 9    Evergreen 8

Josh Roberge started this game on the mound and gave up only one walk but also 4 hits for 2 earned runs but unfortunately a trio of errors resulted in 3 more unearned runs to put us down 5 - 0.

In the top of the 3rd, walks to Cody Moore, Justin Harris, and Reggi Smith all proved costly as base hits by James Songster, Devin Hamaker, Joe Berry, and Cody Skaggs allowed all 7 of these players to score and put us up 7 - 5.

Devin Hamaker worked a perfect 2nd but then gave up 3 hits for 2 earned runs in the 3rd to leave the score knotted at 7 - 7.

In the top of the 5th and final inning, Reggi Smith drew a leadoff walk and advanced to 2nd on an errant pickoff attempt and then scored on Devin Hamaker's RBI single.  Devin took 3rd on a ground out and scored our much needed insurance run on a pickoff attempt that was ruled a Balk.

Justin Harris pitched a scoreless 4th allowing one base hit.  He got two outs immediately in the bottom of the 5th on a line drive to James Songster at shortstop and a Strikeout, but then seemed to lose the strike zone and walked the bases loaded.

Devin Hamaker was re-summoned to the mound in this tight situation.  The first batter ended up hit by a pitch on a full count which brought the score to 9 - 8 and tying run to 3rd base, but on 1-0 count, the final hitter of the game grounded back to Devin for an easy out and a pitching Save.  All 3 wins this week were all by a margin of just one run, underscoring how important every single play was in these well earned team victories.

Game 6     Chaparral 9  Harman Ice 17

The final score does vast injustice to how great of a game this was.  After two innings we had a 7 - 2 lead, but the game simply had a feel that it was going to get closer.  Sure enough it did as after 4 we had the lead 9 - 8.  James Songster pitched those first 4 innings, allowing 7 hits and 4 walks for 4 earned runs with 2 strikeouts.

Taylor Weise worked the 5th and 6th innings, allowing only a walk and a double that resulted in the two runs that left us down by one.

Cody Skaggs got the call to try to keep us in the game and he responded well allowing a walk, but then getting 2 K's and a ground ball that would have had us out of the inning, but the throw to first was off just enough to pull our 1st baseman's foot off the bag.  Harman really took advantage of that one miscue, as they proceeded to pound out 5 consecutive base hits which together with the walk and error resulted in a 7 run inning and put this one out of our grasp.

Offensively against one of the better pitchers in the league, we managed 11 base hits in a great team effort.  Devin Hamaker led the way with a Double and a Single for 4 RBIs.  Joe Berry also added a Double and a Single and scored twice.  James Songster had two base hits and scored 3 times.  Justin Harris and Taylor Weise added RBI Singles.  Josh Roberge, Reggi Smith, and Cody Skaggs added our other base hits.

Game 3 Makeup   Chaparral 8  ASD 7

On this night we found ourselves down 4 - 0 after one and a half innings but then came our 2nd turn at bat when we got help from 4 walks and 3 errors but also added 3 base hits to push 7 runs across.  Taylor Weise and Devin Hamaker had RBI singles in the inning and David Dunn added a single as well.

David Dunn worked the 1st two innings on the mound and earned the Win striking out 2, walking 4 and giving up 2 hits and 4 runs, 2 earned.  Devin Hamaker pitched the 3rd and 4th innings allowing 2 unearned runs on 2 hits and 2 walks.

In the bottom of the 4th, Reggi Smith hit a towering leadoff double to left center field, was advanced to 3rd on a sacrifice bunt by James Songster, and then scored the very much needed insurance run on Justin Harris' RBI ground out to put us up to stay at 8 - 6.  Taylor Weise added a towering double of his own in the bottom of the 5th, but was stranded at 2nd.

With the game on the line and us up 8 - 6, Taylor Weise was then called to the hill.  Taylor gave up 2 hits and an unearned run in the 5th.  Then in the 6th and final inning, the bases ended up getting walked to full with one out, but Taylor ended up striking out the side to preserve our victory.  Taylor closed with a Save and 5 strikeouts in 2 innings of work.

Game 5   Chaparral 5  JC Press 4

Winning Pitcher Taylor Weise was very effective this night in 3 innings of work striking out 7, allowing no hits, but 2 earned runs due to 2 walks and subsequent stolen bases and wild pitches.  James Songster came on to work innings 4, 5, and 6 allowing 2 earned runs on 4 hits and 1 walk with 3 K's.  David Dunn closed the victory this night by working a perfect 7th inning with 2 strikeouts.

Offensively, we were a little slow getting started while facing some good pitching.  In the 1st inning, Dylan Day reached on error, was moved to 2nd with a very nice sacrifice bunt by Cody Skaggs, and then advanced to 3rd and home on a wild pitch and a passed ball.  The rest of our damage was done in the 4th when Devin Hamaker reached on an error, advanced on a Taylor Weise single and later scored on a called balk.  Zach Bailey reached on a walk.  Then with 2 outs, Justin Harris delivered a big 2 RBI single and then scored himself on an RBI single by James Songster

Game 2   Chaparral 19  McLeod 4

This game started out close as we had 1st inning jitters and yielded 4 runs on 3 errors and 4 hits.  On our side we managed to scratch out 4 runs without a base hit over 3 innings to knot the score at 4-4.  But then came the top of the 4th when the strikes would just not come for the McLeod pitchers.  We ended up that inning with 15 runs on 3 hits, an error, 8 walks, and 3 hit batters.

Dylan Day led our offense with a 2 RBI double and 3 runs scored.  Joe Berry added a 2 run single and scored twice as well.  Reggi Smith also had an RBI single.

Our pitching this night was on target as winning pitcher James Songster allowed 4 hits and 4 runs but due to our early errors only one of those was earned.  James got the win in 3 innings of work striking out 4 and walking NONE.

Devin Hamaker came to the mound to work the 4th inning allowing a hit which was quickly erased by a James Songster to Cody Skaggs to Zach Bailey 6-4-3 double play.  The final hitter flied out to Reggi Smith in right field and the game ended due to the 15 run rule after 4 innings.

Game 1   Chaparral 7  BJ's Best 0 (forfeit as BJs had only 7 eligible players)

In the resulting 4 inning umpired scrimmage after this

game was declared a forfeit, Chaparral prevailed by a 14 to 7 count.  Cody Skaggs led us with 2 hits for 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored.  Base hits and 2 runs scored were achieved by James Songster, Dylan Day and Zach Bailey.   Additional base hits and runs scored were added by Taylor Weise and Joe Berry.  As a team we out-hit BJs 7 to 3.

On the mound James Songster was most effective, working 2 and 1/3 innings and allowing no runs, 1 hit, 1 walk, and striking out one.

The game also saw very nice defensively plays from Justin Harris at shortstop and Josh Roberge in centerfield.

Jamboree Scrimmage  Chaparral 14  Greg's Pizza 0

This 90 minute scrimmage found the Pizza men lacking much of their talent still active on school teams.

Taylor Weise was very effective over 3 innings, shutting out Greg's and recording 7 of the 9 outs by strikeout.

Offensively Devin Hamaker lead our charge by going 2 for 3 with 3 runs scored.  Reggi Smith also scored 3 times on 3 walks.

Taylor Weise and Cody Moore each singled and scored twice.  Congrats to Cody Skaggs for stepping up for catching duties.
