2011 Game Log

Game CT5   Chaparral 4   Tan Shack Smokies 14

                      R H E

Chaparral   301 00    4 7 1

Tan Shack   125 42   14 8 5

Tuesday June 28, 2011, Roller Field: There were threatening skies and lots of rain very near Roller Field before and during this championship game, but few if any drops actually fell on the field.

This game actually started out great for Chaparral as our first 3 hitters of the game got on base with a walk and two hits and all scored.  Unfortunately this night, that was as good as it got as our 2 out error allowed Tan Shack 1 run in the bottom of the first and then in the 2nd inning 3 walks plus one hit and an error allowed them to tie the game.

From there we just didn't seem to have the will to compete, as we developed an inexplicable inability to throw, catch, or even put our feet in position to make plays.

Calvin Wingate led our offense on the day with a 2 run double and a single plus 2 stolen bases and 2 runs scored.  Caleb Dukarm added an RBI single in the 3rd inning.  Phillip Zastrow had an infield single in the 1st.  Colin Ice also singled and scored and both Davis Harmon and Trey Sutton singled as well.   Trey Simmons walked and scored.

Congratulations Chaparral for overcoming a 7th place 4-12 regular season to rise in the City Tournament to defeat all 3 of our league's regular season co-champions!

Too bad we couldn't get a comparable effort against the 4th place team in either of our attempts.

Game CT4   Chaparral 15   The Peerless Bulls 7

Peerless    501 000 1    7  5 5

Chaparral   203 253 x   15 15 5

Monday June 27, 2011, Roller Field: This warm evening found us battling the 3rd of the teams that tied for for regular season champions.  They got off to a 5 run 1st inning which we only matched with 2.  Coach elected to put Trey Simmons on the mound from that point and he did a marvelous job holding the Bulls to just 2 more hits and 2 runs with 4 walks and 8 strikeouts the rest of the way.

A key in this game was our offense.  Nine different Chaparral hitters had 1 or more base hits for the game.  Caleb Dukarm hit a pair of doubles and single and Calvin Wingate also hit a double and a pair of singles for 3 RBIs.  Phillip Zastrow added a triple and double and scored 3 times.  Davis Harmon also had 2 hits.  Jackson Murray drove a based loaded double in our big 5th inning that brought in 3 runs.  Trey Simmons stroked an RBI double.  Richard Baker added a 2 run single, and Colin Ice also drove in a run with a single.  Gabe Hirsch also singled.

Defensive highlights were in the 5th inning with 2 on and 1 out when center fielder Trey Sutton caught a line drive and doubled off the runner on 2nd base.  Likewise in the 7th and final inning, left fielder Jackson Murray moved a long way to his left to haul in the 2nd out of the inning.

Congratulations Chaparral on advancing to Tuesday's tournament final !

Game CT3   Chaparral 6   Tan Shack Smokies 13

Chaparral   000 411    6 10 1

Tan Shack   140 260   13 11 3

Monday June 27, 2011, Roller Field: This sunny and hot early evening played host to the 2011 winner's bracket final.  Tan Shack gave us every opportunity to step up and claim this game.  But it just seemed like we weren't up for it as we squandered the opportunity to give our best effort on a few key occasions.  We did hit the ball well, as is shown by 10 base hits from 8 different Chaparral hitters.

Colin Ice and Jackson Murray equally led the charge with a pair of singles each.  Gabe Hirsch hit a deep double and scored.  Caleb Dukarm and Colin Ice each contributed solid RBI singles.  Calvin Wingate, Phillip Zastrow, and Richard Baker added our other base hits.

In the field we simply struggled in this game with one exception being the double play turned in the 2nd from shortstop Trey Simmons to Colin Ice at 2nd and on to Davis Harmon at 1st.

Game CT2   Chaparral 7   Evergreen Terrace Apartments 6

Saturday June 25, 2011, Seaver Field: A warm and sunny Saturday evening greeted this City Tournament Winner's bracket semi-final participants who proceeded to square off in a great baseball game.  Colin Ice was the story of the first 3 innings as he went through the Evergreen lineup retiring 9 of 10 hitters, allowing just a walk and getting 2 strikeouts.

In our 1st inning, Trey Simmons took a leadoff walk, advance to 2nd on Colin Ice's grounder to first, moved to 3rd on Calvin Wingate's grounder to second, and scored on a wild pitch.  In our 2nd Jackson Murray led off the inning with a single, advanced to 2nd on Houston Boyd's infield single, and to 3rd on a passed ball.  From there he scored on a sac fly ball to left field off the bat of Caleb Dukarm.

In our 4th, Phillip Zastrow reached on an error and then Jackson Murray, Richard Baker, and Josh Routh drew consecutive walks to score Phillip.   Trey Simmons then smacked a huge 2 out single that brought both Jackson and Richard home to score our 4th and 5th runs.

So up 5-0, we went back out for the bottom of the 4th with Colin starting through their order for the second time.  This time the Evergreen bats ended up producing 5 hits and 4 runs before a pop-up to 3rd baseman Calvin Wingate and two fly balls to left fielder Jackson Murray retired the side.  A couple of those hits fell just out of the grasp of our outfielders.

They got us out in the 5th, and then we brought Trey Simmons to the mound and got them out as well.  In our 6th, Richard Baker got an infield single and later scored on a deep double by Caleb Dukarm.   In the bottom of the 6th, Evergreen was able to get 3 hits 2 of which again were very close to being caught by our outfielders, but they were able to score 2 to tie the game at 6 to 6.

Gabe Hirsch got a 1 out single to start our 7th, and then he advanced to 2nd on a walk drawn by Phillip ZastrowJackson Murray hit a 2 out routine grounder to 2nd, but the ball was misplayed and we ended up with everybody safe and the bases loaded.  Richard Baker came to the plate and ended up drawing a walk that plated Gabe Hirsch for what proved to be the deciding run.

Trey Simmons went back to the mound for the bottom of the 7th, and promptly got a comebacker, a called strike three, and a ground ball to shortstop Colin Ice who fielded it cleanly fired it accurately to Calvin Wingate at first to claim our victory.

A fantastic team effort by Chaparral earned this win against another of our league regular season co-champions.

Congratulations on another well played game!!!

Game CT1   Chaparral 11   JC Press 1

Chaparral   005 24  11 8 1

JC Press    000 10   1 1 5

Tuesday June 21, Wednesday June 22, and Friday June 24, 2011, Seaver Field: The weather was a strange but true story in this game as it took 5 scheduled days and two suspensions due to downpours to complete it.  As the visiting team, Chaparral won Tuesday's 2 and 1/2 innings 5-0, and then came right back to win Wednesday's 2 innings 6-1 and then completed a scoreless bottom of the 5th on Friday to claim the 5 inning mercy rule victory.

Trey Simmons was stellar on the mound, going all 5 innings allowing just 1 hit and no earned runs on 5 walks and 3 strikeouts.  Our defense played very solidly as well.  Trey successfully converted an early 1st and 3rd run down by properly transferring attention at the right moment to get the lead runner at the plate, he picked a runner off 1st base, and he also trapped a lead runner and got the out with a single throw on a comebacker.  Trey Sutton ran down two fly balls in centerfield for important outs.  Richard Baker got two big putouts at 2nd base with some acrobatic effort to stretch for some offline throws.

On our side we hit some good pitching very well and were led by Caleb Dukarm who pounded a pair of doubles to the fence and also hit a single down the 3rd base line for a total of 4 RBIs and 2 runs scored.  Ethan Morelock added an RBI double and both Trey Simmons and Calvin Wingate added RBI singles and each scored.  Richard Baker hit a single and earned a bases loaded walk for an RBI and scored twice himself.  Phillip Zastrow also singled and walked a stole 2nd twice.  Jackson Murray, Houston Boyd, and Wesley Smith each drew walks and scored.

The power of team was very present in all 3 pieces of this game and we have proved that we can be a fierce opponent to our league's best teams.

Game 16   JC Press 12  Chaparral 0

JC Press    404 40  12 7 1

Chaparral   000 00   0 2 3

Friday June 17, 2011, Roller Field: This game starting going favorable to JC Press from the first batter as every ball they put in play seem to find gaps in our defense.  We played a decent game defensively but still game up far short.

Ethan Morelock worked the first 3 innings on the mound, throwing well but yielding a total of 8 runs on 5 hits and 3 walks with 1 strikeout.  Davis Harmon pitched the 4th inning allowing 2 earned runs on 2 hits with 3 walks and 2 strikeouts.  Trey Simmons came on to get a 1-2-3 5th inning with a pair of strikeouts and a pop up.

On our side only Trey Simmons and Ethan Morelock could manage infield singles.  Davis Harmon drew a pair of walks and was able to get as far as 3rd base, but this was as close as we got to scoring.  Calvin Wingate and Wesley Smith also drew walks in the contest.  Colin Ice hit a hard shot in the 1st inning, but it went right to the 1st baseman standing on first base.

Game 15   Chaparral 15  East Tenn Rent-Alls (Bobcats) 9

Bobcats      0 26 10   9  7 8

Thursday June 16, 2011, Roller Field: This pleasant early evening started with a low and very bright sun which helped us significantly in the top of the first.  But we also helped ourselves with a full team effort for 9 base hits that along with 4 walks and 4 errors produced 12 runs for Chaparral.  From that point on, we just held on but it was enough effort for a win this night.

Colin Ice led our hitting display by going 3-for-4 with a triple and two singles for 2 RBIs and a pair of runs scored.  Trey Simmons added an RBI triple plus a single and scored 3 times while Ethan Morelock pounded out a pair of doubles for one RBI and two runs scored.  Gabe Hirsch also added a pair of RBI singles.  Phillip Zastrow hit an RBI double and also scored twice.  Davis Harmon had a base hit and a run scored.

Winning Pitcher Calvin Wingate was effective into the 3rd inning, but a pair of errors allowed 4 unearned runs in that frame.  Trey Simmons came on to get the final out in the 3rd and went on to finish the 5 inning contest.  On the evening Calvin Wingate allowed just 2 earned runs on 5 hits and 1 walk with 1 strikeout.  Trey Simmons allowed just 1 run on 2 hits and 3 walks with 4 strikeouts.

We saw the power of team for 1 inning tonight.  Here's to hoping we can get that going again and soon...

Game 14   Chaparral 11  Coca-Cola 6

Chaparral  041 42   11 4 2

Coca-Cola  002 04    6 4 4

Monday June 13, 2011, Seaver Field: On this sunny but pleasant early evening, Gabe Hirsch led off the top of the 2nd inning with the game's first base hit on a 3-0 count.  He then stole 2nd, advanced to 3rd on a wild pitch, and scored his first of 3 runs on a passed ball.

Winning pitcher Colin Ice was effective with 2 scoreless innings before 2 walked hitters scored in the 3rd on a base hit and a ground out.  On the day Colin allowed just 2 hits with 5 walks and a strikeout.  Davis Harmon pitched the 4th, yielding just a walk and an infield single before getting a strikeout and a ground ball that became a Trey Simmons to Colin Ice to Calvin Wingate 6-4-3 double play.  Phillip Zastrow pitched in the 5th, allowing 1 hit and six walks but also got the benefit of an over-eager trailing runner that resulted in a run down miscue followed by a return throw to the plate to get the 1st out.  The 2nd out of the inning was also made on the bases as catcher Gabe Hirsch threw out a runner attempting to steal second.

Offensively, Gabe Hirsch led the way as he added a deep double to centerfield to finish the evening at 2-for-2 with 3 runs scored and 2 stolen bases.  Ethan Morelock drove in a run with a single and Trey Simmons had a base hit, a stolen base, an RBI, and a run scored.  Colin Ice, Jackson Murray, and Calvin Wingate each hit RBI ground balls.

Chaparral  000 00    0  3 6

Saturday June 11, 2011, Roller Field: On this very warm and sunny Saturday, we didn't quite have the will to make this a competitive game.  Six errors went in the scorebook, but at several other opportunities our lack of focus was very apparent.  This really could have been a close game, but our lack of play making took it's toll with 3 unearned runs in the first inning and 2 in the second.

Caleb Dukarm started and pitched 2 innings allowing just 2 earned runs on 3 hits and 4 walks.  Trey Simmons faced 3 batters in the 2nd and after allowing a double was able to record the final 2 outs with a popup and a ground ball.  Davis Harmon worked a scoreless 3rd inning in spite of walking the first 2 hitters, but in the 4th, Evergreen tallied 6 base hits a walk, and a hit batsman which allowed a total of 6 runs to score.  Jackson Murray came on to pitch the 5th and final inning, allowing a double and a hit batter, but also getting 3 ground balls.  After the first ground ball of the inning was misplayed, one the next we turned a nice double play from shortstop Caleb Dukarm to 2nd baseman Trey Simmons to 1st baseman Ethan Morelock.

On our side of the plate, Colin Ice led the way by going 2-for-2 with a stolen base.  Davis Harmon added a single.

Game 12   McLeod Chaparral 2

Chaparral  010 001 0   2 4 4

McLeod     110 121 x   6 7 4

Friday June 10, 2011, Roller Field: This warm summer evening saw Chaparral playing a competitive game but coming up short by just a few timely base hits.  Colin Ice started on the mound and gave us 3 very good innings, allowing just 1 earned run on 4 hits and 2 walks and 1 strikeout.  Ethan Morelock worked the 4th and 5th innings, also allowing just 1 earned run on 1 hit with 3 walks.  Trey Simmons pitched the 6th, also yielding 1 earned run on 2 hits and 1 walk with 1 strikeout.  On defense in the 4th, Richard Baker ranged way far to his left and made an amazing diving stop albeit a low throw that first baseman Calvin Wingate was able to scoop for a marvelous out.

On our side, Calvin Wingate led our efforts with 2 hits and a run scored.  Trey Simmons pulled a nice RBI double down the left field line.  Ethan Morelock added an RBI single.  Colin Ice walked and reached on an error, stole 2nd both times, and scored once.

The effort and team spirit were much better tonight.  Keep doing things this way and we will find a way to win, you can count on it!

Game 11   Horton Sports Chaparral 8

Chaparral            303 002 0   8  5 6

Horton Sports        002 100 6   9 10 2

Thursday June 9, 2011, Roller Field: On another fine evening for baseball, we played six really good innings getting up 8-3 all to let it slip away in the bottom of the 7th with 3 fielding errors.  Calvin Wingate pitched superbly, allowing just 3 earned runs for the entire game and walking only 1 batter.  Offensively  Ethan Morelock pounded a deep double early in the game.  Gabe Hirsch had an RBI single, 2 stolen bases and scored twice.  Trey Simmons also singled and stole 2 bases.  Trey Sutton had a nice single and scored.  Calvin Wingate also added a single and a pair of RBIs.  Phillip Zastrow drove in a run with a ground ball.  Houston Boyd added an RBI by getting hit with a pitch with the bases loaded.  Chaparral made some good plays tonight, but also did not rally as a team in the face of some tough bounces.

Game 10   Tan Shack 11  Chaparral 7

                               R H E

Tan Shack Smokies    101 234  11 6 2

Chaparral            010 060   7 6 4

Tuesday June 7, 2011, Seaver Field: Prior to this game it looked like the weather was not going to cooperate.  However, the coming storm never materialized, and we had a pleasant evening for baseball.   And a good game it was as our starting pitcher Ethan Morelock was very effective into the 5th inning.  In the bottom of the 2nd, catcher Gabe Hirsch reached on an error, stole 2nd, got 3rd on a wild pitch, and then scored in Josh Routh's first of 2 infield singles.  In the bottom of the 5th, we rallied for 6 runs to tie the game at 7.  Gabe Hirsch started the inning with a solid single, then Josh Routh hit his 2nd infield single of the contest, Jackson Murray walked and then Trey Sutton hit a RBI deep sac fly ball to center that after which Gabe was easily able to tag up and score.   With 2 outs in that same inning Colin Ice and Calvin Wingate each drew walks to load the bases and then Phillip Zastrow brought in 2 runs with a bloop single that fell between several Tan Shack players.  Calvin and Jackson each scored when Trey Simmons' sharply struck grounder was not played by the first baseman.   Colin Ice came to the mound in the 5th inning with 1 out and promptly got a strikeout and a popup to get us out of that inning with no further damage.   In the 6th a couple of hits and walks allowed 2 runs plus an error allowed 2 more all of which we were unable to match in our half of that inning to come up short.

Game 9   Peerless Bulls 17  Chaparral 6

                            R  H E

Peerless Bulls     403 28  17 13 2

Chaparral          014 01   6  5 6

Thursday May 26, 2011, Roller Field: One this very hot and sunny evening, our errors, walks, wild pitches and passed balls finally began to take their toll and ultimately took us out of contention.  At the end of 3 innings down 7-5, it actually seemed that we had the momentum to come back and claim this win if we really wanted it.  And even in the top of the 4th before any scoring we had two outs and just one on base.  But two wild pitches, two walks, and two hit batters later, we allowed Peerless to plate two runners and make it 9-5.  It the bottom of that inning we still had a good chance with the bases loaded and one out and the top of our lineup at the plate.  But two strikeouts really seemed to dash our hopes.

On the day, Trey Simmons led the offense with an RBI on a pair of singles plus 3 stolen bases.  Calvin Wingate hit a bases loaded triple to the fence for 3 RBIs and also scored.  Trey Sutton hit a sharp single and scored.  Phillip Zastrow added a hit plus an RBI sac pop up and also scored twice.  Caleb Dukarm and Richard Baker each earned a pair of walks.

On the mound Calvin Wingate started and went 3 innings, allowing 3 earned runs on 3 hits and 4 walks.

Yet again we fell short of remaining in contention at a key point in the game.  This shows a lack of mental focus and the desire to excel as a team.  We must continue to improve in this area.

Game 8   Johnson City Press 10  Chaparral 6

                               R H E

Chaparral            011 004   6 2 9

Johnson City Press   124 30x  10 3 0

Tuesday May 31, 2011, Seaver Field:  On this rather warm and humid night, we just couldn't make the defensive plays necessary to match JC Press.  We were outhit just 3 to 2, and out-walked 12 to 11, but the difference that really mattered was our 9 fielding errors vs. 0 for JC Press.  Caleb Dukarm and Calvin Wingate each hit RBI singles to the outfield.  Colin Ice, Calvin Wingate, and Josh Routh each stole 2nd base.  Davis Harmon walked 3 times and scored twice.  Josh Routh and Ethan Morelock each earned a pair of walks.

On the mound, Ethan Morelock started and threw well for 3 innings, allowing just 1 hit and scattering 7 walks while notching up 2 strikeouts and allowing just 1 earned run.  Calvin Wingate worked the 4th frame, allowing 3 runs on 2 hits and 2 walks with a strikeout.  Trey Simmons fired a scoreless inning  while giving up 2 walks and getting 2 strikeouts.

As has been stressed, we must keep our mental focus and game time intensity.

Chaparral   111 00   3 2 7

Thursday May 19, 2011, Roller Field:  On this evening it was finally dry enough to play but we looked more like we'd been off 2 weeks instead of 2 days.    Three Chaparral errors in the top of the first helped McLeod to a 3-0 lead.  Four more errors in the top of the 3rd gave them even more momentum and really put us out of contention in this game.

The bright spot on the day was the play of Josh Routh, who led our offensive effort with a pair of infield singles, scored from 3rd on a wild pitch, and he also made a nice defensive play to first from his 3rd base position.    Trey Sutton laced a single down the first base line and then scored when Calvin Wingate stroked an RBI single.  Calvin had also walked in the 1st, stole 2nd, and scored on a throwing error.

On the mound, Trey Simmons went the first 2 innings, yielding 2 earned runs on 3 hits with 3 walks and 2 strikeouts.  Caleb Dukarm pitched the final 3 innings, allowing 4 earned runs from 6 hits, 6 walks, and struck out 3.  Our fielding errors did not help our pitchers much at all tonight.

As was explained in the post game meeting, we must arrive at the park better mentally prepared to play this game and keep our focus on every opportunity to improve and help our team strive to win.

Game 5   The Peerless Bulls Chaparral 3

                              R H E

Chaparral            001 002  3 2 4

The Peerless Bulls   000 14x  5 8 3

Monday May 16, 2011, Seaver Field:  On this evening the weather nor the field was great at the start, and conditions got steadily worse as we played through several on and off again showers that finally began to take their toll on the field conditions.  Despite the weather, a good baseball game was played as a 1-1 pitching duel went to the bottom of the 5th when The Peerless got 4 runs on 2 big hits.  We had both the tying and go ahead runs on base in the top of the 6th but just couldn't get them home.  As it was we agreed to stop with 12 minutes remaining due to the field getting really bad.

Philip Zastrow led our offense with a sharply hit RBI single, reaching on an error, drawing a walk and stealing a base.  Calvin Wingate added an infield hit to a pair of walks and stole 2 bases.  Davis Harmon walked, stole 2nd, and scored.  Houston Boyd was hit by a pitch, stole 2nd and scored.  Richard Baker was also hit by a pitch and stole 2nd.  Ethan Morelock reached on an error, advanced to 3rd on a wild pitch, and scored.

In the field, Calvin Wingate pitched 4 really good innings, allowing just 1 run on 6 hits and 2 walks with 3 strikeouts.  Ethan Morelock pitched the 5th in really tough and worsening rain and mud conditions, allowing 2 earned runs on 2 hits and 3 walks with 1 strikeout.

It really felt like we could have won this game with better conditions and 1 more turn at bat.  Nevertheless, it goes as a loss, and we know we have to swing the bats better to come out on top.

Game 2   Chaparral 12  Horton Sports 11

Horton Sports  380 000  11 6 4

Chaparral      440 103  12 5 5

Thursday May 12, 2011, Roller Field: On another fine summer-like evening, we came back in dramatic fashion to claim our first victory of the young season.  We were past the time limit in the 6th inning, down 11-9 with 2 outs and runners at 2nd and 3rd when Trey Simmons hit a solid ground ball to 3rd that could have been the end.  But instead an overthrow allowed both Colin Ice and Houston Boyd to score and tie the game.  Trey had advanced to 2nd on the error as well and was then able to score on the game winning hit by Gabe Hirsch which went high to shallow centerfield, but found its way to the ground in between 3 defenders.

Davis Harmon started this game on the mound for us, throwing well for 2 innings but getting touched for 6 hits and 5 earned runs while giving 5 walks and getting 4 strikeouts.  Ethan Morelock worked 3 hitless and scoreless innings of relief with 4 strikeouts.  Winning Pitcher Trey Simmons was also very effective in the top of the 6th, getting a pop up and 2 strikeouts to retire the side in order.

On our side of the plate, Gabe Hirsch led our attack with 2 hits for a total of 3 RBIs.  Davis Harmon also got a pair of hits and scored twice.  Trey Sutton added an infield RBI single and stole a base.   Ethan Morelock hit an RBI grounder to 2nd.  Calvin Wingate and Trey Simmons each walked twice and scored twice.

The team effort was good enough to win tonight, but we will still need to strive harder as we have some worthy opponents to face in our next games.

Game 1 Chaparral 11  ET Bobcats 13

                       R H E

ET Bobcats 000 723 1  13 6 1

Chaparral  000 500 6  11 4 5

Monday May 9, 2011, Roller Field: This opening day weather felt like mid-summer with a bright hot late afternoon sun.  Early on it was a pitcher's duel as neither side managed a hit nor a run for 3 quick innings.  But in the 4th, the Bobcats plated 7 on 4 hits, 2 Chaparral errors, and 3 walks.  We followed with 5 of our own on a hit, 3 walks, and an error.  By the bottom of the 7th, the Bobcats had a 13-5 lead, but it ended up being just barely enough as we got it to 13-11 with the bases loaded before it ended.

Calvin Wingate led our offense with 2 hits, 1 RBI, and 2 runs scored.  Davis Harmon ripped a 2 run double down down the left field line, stole a base, and scored twice.  Phillip Zastrow also added a double and scored.  Trey Simmons stroked an RBI grounder.  Gabe Hirsch drew a pair of bases loaded walks for 2 RBIs.    Wesley Smith also got hit by a pitch with the bases loaded for an RBI.  Likewise, Josh Routh drew a bases loaded walk for an RBI.

On the mound, Trey Simmons worked 4 innings total, yielding 4 earned runs on 4 hits and 6 walks while fanning 6.  Caleb Dukarm pitched the final 3 innings, allowing 3 earned runs on 2 hits and 6 walks and also racking up 6 strikeouts.

Overall it was a good team effort and we nearly snatched this one back in the last inning.  Maintaining our focus at all times and a positive attitude even when we're down are key ingredients to our success.

Chaparral  037 2  12 8 0

ET Bobcats 000 3   3 3 7

Saturday May 7, 2011, Roller Field: On this pleasant afternoon, everything went our way as we played error free in the field, hit well and ran the bases aggressively.  Calvin Wingate faced just 10 batters over 3 scoreless and hitless innings while allowing 3 baserunners from 2 walks and a hit batter.   Two of these were retired on the bases as in the 1st one was gunned down attempting to steal third base by catcher Gabe Hirsch and the other was picked off 2nd base in the 3rd inning with a method not quite up to our sportsmanship standards.

Wesley Smith worked the 4th and final frame before we hit the 90 minute time limit, allowing 3 hits and 2 walks for 3 runs but also getting a fly ball and 2 grounders for the outs we needed.

On our side of the plate Phillip Zastrow and Calvin Wingate led our charge with equal performances of a double and a single for 2 RBIs.  Phillip also scored twice.  Davis Harmon also added a double and single while scoring 3 times.  Gabe Hirsch and Wesley Smith added base hits.  Ethan Morelock and Josh Routh each drew bases loaded walks to earn RBIs.

It was a good start to build some momentum for Monday's start of our regular season.
