Monday June 29, 2009, Roller Field:  We only got 2 hits in the bottom of the first in this championship game, but add in the gifts of 3 errors plus 7 walks, and it was a recipe for all the runs we would need to claim this year's title.

Dylan Day was excellent on the mound, going the entire 5 innings allowing just 3 hits and 2 walks for just 2 runs with 8 strikeouts and no wild pitches.

The game started with a walk, but this runner was quickly erased by a Hunter Tester to Josh Roberge to Justin Wiseman 6-4-3 double play.

Likewise in the 3rd a runner had reached on an error, but Dylan was able to corral a comebacker well behind the pitcher's mound, and throw it to shortstop Hunter Tester who very quickly relayed it to 1st baseman Justin Wiseman for an unlikely but exciting1-6-3 double play.

In the 4th the other walked runner reached 2nd by an errant pickoff attempt and then attempted to score on a base hit up the middle, but was gunned down by a long and accurate throw from centerfielder Zac Hollifield to catcher Mitchell Wilber, who handled a short hop very well and made a great tag.

On our side Josh Roberge led the charge with a double and an RBI single and 2 runs scored.  Jared Reyes also had a pair of RBI singles and scored twice.  RBI singles also came off the bats of Dylan Day and Jordon DuggerJosh Ramsaran and Gabe Hirsch earned RBIs on bases loaded walks.

Our 12 runs in this game were scored by 8 different players which is yet another great way to spell TEAM.  Congratulations, Chaparral on a very fine 2009 Championship Season!!!

Monday June 29, 2009, Seaver Field:

On a warm but comfortably breezy early evening we quickly put this one in the bag with good pitching, perfect defense, great hitting and aggressive baserunning.    Jared Reyes led the charge scoring twice after a single in the 3rd and a leadoff triple in the 5th.

Zac Hollifield started the 4th with a double and then stole 3rd, but 3 balls in the air later that become the only inning we didn't score.  In this game RBI singles also came off the bats of Josh Roberge, Dylan Day, Hunter Tester, Justin Wiseman and Gabe Hirsch!  Colin Ice and Mitchell Wilber also added base hits.

For this game our 10 base hits came from the bats of NINE different hitters.  There's simply no better way to spell team!

Winning Pitcher Mitchell Wilber worked the complete 5 inning game, spreading 7 hits but no runs with no walks or wild pitches and striking out 7.

In the 5th, we turned a very nice double play from a 1 out runner on 2nd situation when third baseman Zac Hollifield fielded a sharp grounder and quickly threw a strike to 1st baseman Justin Wiseman who then alertly returned a good throw to shortstop Hunter Tester covering 3rd to get the runner from 2nd attempting to advance.  This play could not have looked any crisper if the pros were doing it!

Saturday June 27, 2009, Roller Field:  It was too hot for many at 90 degrees and very sunny this Saturday afternoon, but again we were able to take care of business on both sides of the baseball to end up on top convincingly.

We went hitless against some power pitching in the first two innings but were able in the 2nd to get Mitchell Wilber home as Colin Ice drew a bases loaded walk for an RBI.  In our 3rd Josh Roberge led off with an infield single and Mitchell Wilber later drove him home from 3rd with a single.

In the 4th, Justin Wiseman and Colin Ice led the inning with walks, and after a pitching change Josh Roberge smacked a double to drive them both to the plate.  In our 5th, Mitchell Wilber doubled and scored from there on a hit by Hunter Tester.  And in the bottom of the 6th as time was near expiring, Josh Roberge singled, Zac Hollifield doubled down the leftfield line, Dylan Day drew a walk which loaded the bases, and then Mitchell Wilber cleared them with a 3 run triple right as the 2 hour time limit was reached and the game was called.

Our offensive leader was Mitchell Wilber who was 3-for-3 with a triple and a double for 4 RBIs, 2 stolen bases, and 2 runs scored.  Josh Roberge totalled 3-for-4 with an RBI double and 2 runs scored.

Our pitching was very good again today as Justin Wiseman took the Win, going 3 innings allowing just 1 run on 2 hits, walking 2, hitting 2, and striking out 2.  His effort was helped in the 1st by a comebacker 1-5-3 double play that went from Justin to Hunter Tester at 3rd to Mitch Wilber at 1st.  Hunter Tester came on in relief to start the 4th and was equally effective allowing just 1 hit, no walks, and also striking out 2.

Except for a mishandled popup near home plate, our defense was flawless this day.  In fact it was better than that in the top of the 6th as Jared Reyes galloped a country mile and dove fully extended to catch a gap shot in left centerfield.  That play was certainly a top 10 of the decade play for Johnson City Babe Ruth.  Not to be outdone, after the next two batters reached, leftfielder Jordon Dugger also moved into not only the same gap but also Jared Reyes as he reached and held on to a diving catch as well for yet another remarkable play.

Team play and morale is definitely at a peak right now, and that could not come at a better time.

Friday June 26, 2009, Roller Field:  On this comfortable evening almost everything went our way including this year's Regular Season Title!!!  Winning Pitcher Mitchell Wilber started on the mound and didn't allow a ball out of the infield through 10 batters for 3 hitless and scoreless innings.  He struck out 2 and walked ZERO.  Dylan Day came to hill in the 4th and was equally effective, striking out 5 and allowing just 2 hits and a lone unearned run.  Dylan did not walk or hit a batter either.

Again this night we played very well defensively as every infielder accounted for at least 2 outs.  Second baseman Josh Roberge had an especially good game, covering first twice on ground balls to 1st baseman Justin Wiseman and quickly moving 8 steps to his right on a hard hit ball to make a fantastic play.

On our side of the plate it went equally well.  Mitchell Wilber led our attack with a 3 run double and a pair of singles for 4 RBIs total.  Zac Hollifield was 3-for-4 with a stolen base and 3 runs scored.  Dylan Day cracked 2 run scoring hits, a double and a single.  Hunter Tester added 2 hits and 2 runs scored.  Josh Roberge had an infield single and scored 3 times.  Justin Wiseman drew a bases loaded walk for an RBI.

Thursday June 25, 2009, Roller Field:  On this cloudy summer evening, amid some brief light rain we simply took care of business with some excellent team play in the infield.   In the bottom of the 1st inning we started with a good play at third by Justin Wiseman on a difficult hop.  Then with walked runners on 2nd and 3rd, Dylan Day fielded a ground ball near first and was able to throw to Mitchell Wilber at the plate for tag out number 2.  Then with runners on 1st and 3rd, Mitchell made a very good throw to 2nd and was able to catch the runner attempting to steal for the 3rd out.

In the 2nd with 2 on and 1 out, our pitcher Josh Roberge handled a hot comebacker and turned the 1-6-3 double play to end the inning.  And in the 3rd we saw nice plays from Justin Wiseman at third and Jordon Dugger at 2nd.

In the 4th with 2 on and no outs, 2nd baseman Jordon Dugger lingered near 2nd during a pitch and it worked to our advantage as he was able to field a grounder hit right up the middle with one foot on the base and complete the throw to 1st for an easy double play.  And in the final two innings, Zac Hollifield made two perfect plays from 3rd and Hunter Tester did the same at shortstop.

Josh Roberge got the win going 4 innings allowing 2 runs on only 1 hit and striking out 2.  Justin Wiseman worked the final two frames, allowing just 1 run on 3 hits, also striking out 2 and walking none.

Hunter Tester led our offensive action with a pair of doubles and 4 RBIs.  Dylan Day also added a pair of hits and scored 3 times.  Zac Hollifield had a base hit and scored twice.  Mitchell Wilber and Jared Reyes accounted for our other base hits.

Game 11S   Chaparral 8   Tan Shack Smokies 9  (Final 4 of 12 innings)

Tan Shack Smokies    100 000 220 202  9 10 4

Tuesday June 23, 2009, Seaver Field:  This game suspended from June 12 was completed as the sun set on this day.  It was an exciting battle that definitely had both teams anticipating victory at several moments.  In the end I'm sorry to say that the field umpire ended up taking the ball out of the kids hands and simply ended the game with a balk call.  That was hard to accept but the fact was that we were guilty of the infraction several times as well when the call wasn't made.  Still it would have been nice to see this battle conclude with a hit or a close play at home plate.

As it was we had a game's worth of excitement in 4 innings.  In the top of the 10th, we got it going well with single from Josh Roberge followed by a double off the bat of Zac Hollifield.  Then Hunter Tester ripped a single driving them both home.  Looking back, we had our best shot at winning in the bottom of that inning, but unfortunately a one out hit batsman was then advanced by a single and scored on a wild pitch.  The 2nd runner ended up scoring on a strange bases loaded ground ball that was misplayed partly due to a runner blocking the view to the ball.  Bases were loaded then with the game ending run at 3rd, so the outfield was brought in to about 10 feet from the dirt.  Fortunately, pitcher Mitchell Wilber was then able to get a pair of strikeouts to keep the game going.

In the top of the 12th, Mitchell Wilber hit a leadoff triple, but then tried to advance home on Zac Hollifield's one out ground ball.  It was close at the plate but Mitchell was ruled out.  Zac did score two batters later on Hunter Tester's RBI double.  Then came the fateful bottom of the 12th which opened with 2 more hit batters.  Those runners were advanced with a balk call and then the first one was driven home with a single.  Unfortunately a balk call was again made to allow the 2nd hit batter to score and end this marathon game without the fitting finish it deserved.

Tuesday June 23, 2009, Seaver Field: On this warm night we dominated early and just barely managed to hold on late.  Winning Pitcher Dylan Day tossed 3 shutout innings, allowing 3 hits and walking 3 while striking out 2.  Hunter Tester worked the final 4 frames, also allowing 3 hits and 3 walks, but in his case for 5 runs (3 unearned) while fanning 5.

Offensively, Hunter Tester led our attack with a pair of RBI singles.  Mitchell Wilber and Jared Reyes also each added run scoring singles.  Dylan Day was able to reach base 3 times, stealing 2 bases, and scoring twice with an RBI as well.   Zac Hollifield got a hit, scored, and also stole a base.

Defensively we had a few highlights:  In the first we turned a nice 1-6-3 double play from Dylan Day to Hunter Tester to Justin WisemanJordon Dugger made a nice catch in rightfield in the 2nd and Zac Hollifield grabbed a fly ball in deep centerfield in the 6th inning.  In the 4th, shortstop Dylan Day made a very good catch in left centerfield over his head while running backward.

Game 15   Chaparral 15   McLeod 10

McLeod         150 013  10 5 7

Chaparral      633 03x  15 9 1

Monday June 22, 2009, Roller Field: Early on this evening the sun was bright but it wasn't uncomfortably hot and we got off to a very warm start with a 9-6 lead after 2 innings.  We got 5 hits in those innings but also benefited from as many errors, 2 walks, and a hit batter.   After that point we added 6 on 4 hits vs. 4 for McLeod to hang on to the win.

Zac Hollifield started on the mound looking great getting 2 strikeouts and what should have been a comebacker for the 3rd out and a perfect 1st inning.  Instead the ball was mistakenly called foul and that batter ended up drawing a base on balls.  The next 3 hitters did the same allowing one run to score before a ground out to 2nd baseman Jared Reyes ended the inning.   In the 2nd we continued having trouble getting strike calls and a total of one error, 3 walks, a hit batter, and two hits brought 5 runs across.

Josh Roberge came to the hill in the top of the 3rd and worked 2 perfect innings before surrendering a lone run in the 5th on 2 hits and 2 walks.  For those 9 outs, 2 were struck out, 3 were popups caught by Josh, and one was a marvelous grab by Josh on a hard hit grounder back up the middle, and the final three were grounders to Hunter Tester and Jared Reyes up the middle.

Jared Reyes took the mound in the final 6th inning, and threw several good pitches, but then struggled for control as 4 hitters ended up reaching with ball 4 calls.  Justin Wiseman was called in to finish this one, and did so by facing 4 hitters, getting a fly ball to Josh Roberge in rightfield and a pair of strikeouts.

Offensively, Mitchell Wilber and Jared Reyes led our efforts with a double, a single, and 3 RBIs each.  Mitchell added a pair of stolen bases and scored twice.  Hunter Tester also had 2 hits and 2 RBIs, one on a sac bunt that brought home MitchellZac Hollifield singled down the left field line and scored 4 times.  Dylan Day also added a 2 run single and scored twice.  Justin Wiseman singled on an infield popup that fell in just the right place behind pitcher's mound.    Josh Roberge reached on an error, was hit by a pitch, and walked twice all to score 4 times.  Gabe Hirsch also walked and scored.

Horton Sports  100 120   4 5 7

Chaparral      314 02x  10 4 2

Tuesday June 16, 2009, Roller Field: On this warm but ever darkening evening, we jumped out to a 4-1 lead after two without a base hit thanks to 5 walks, a hit batsman, and a trio of errors.   Then it was more of the same in the 3rd as we added 4 on 1 hit, 2 more walks, and 3 more errors.

Winning Pitcher Hunter Tester fired 3 innings, giving up 3 hits and 2 walks and just a lone unearned run while striking out 3.  Josh Roberge worked the 4th and 5th innings, allowing 2 earned runs on 2 hits and striking out 2.  Zac Hollifield came to hill and closed it  effectively, getting a ground ball out, yielding a ground ball single, and then back to back K's to put this one in the books.

Our offense struggled a little to find hittable pitches, but catcher Mitchell Wilber found a pair for an RBI single and a deep left centerfield leadoff double in the 5th.  On the day, Mitchell scored 3 times and stole 4 bases.  Hunter Tester was 1-for-1 with 3 runs scored and a stolen base.  Josh Roberge added a single and a stolen base.  Jared Reyes laid down a sacrifice RBI bunt, stole 2nd and scored.  Justin Wiseman also added an RBI grounder.  Connor Williams and Zac Hollifield each walked and scored.  Dylan Day reached on an error and scored.

Team morale definitely was lacking at times in this game.  Take back a few of the gifts we were given, and this game would have been very close.

Game 12   Chaparral 10   SAE Lions 6

                        R H E

Chaparral   104 003 2  10 7 2

SAE Lions   011 002 2   6 9 2

Saturday June 13, 2009, Roller Field: On this bright and sunny summer Saturday we broke open a 1 to 1 tie with 4 runs in the top of the 3rd and then never looked back.  Josh Ramsaran opened the inning with a walk, advanced on wild pitches and then scored on a Josh Roberge single.  Josh stole 2nd, advanced to 3rd on a Zac Hollifield single and then scored on a Dylan Day ground out.  Zac had also stolen 2nd and advanced to 3rd on that same grounder, and scored from there on a wild pitch.  Then Mitchell Wilber drew a 2 out walk, stole both 2nd and 3rd, and scored on another wild pitch.

Defensively, Mitchell Wilber was king of the hill this day, throwing six innings, allowing just 3 earned runs on 6 hits and 5 walks and striking out 5.  Our defense stepped it up this day as well, with 2 tag outs at home plate in the 4th inning.  One came from a one out grounder to first baseman Justin Wiseman who alertly saw he had time to throw and make the tag out at home plate.  The next one was a great relay from centerfielder Josh Ramsaran to shortstop Hunter Tester to catcher Dylan Day to retire a runner attempting to score from 2nd on a single.   In the 5th we again made the final out at home plate when a late throw to first allowed a runner to reach safely, but first baseman Justin Wiseman was able to fire the ball home to Dylan Day in time to retire the runner who had started the play on the move from 2nd base.  And in the 6th we got yet another put out on the basepaths as catcher Dylan Day gunned down a runner attempting to swipe 2nd with a strike to shortstop Hunter Tester.

On the day our attack was led by Mitchell Wilber with a 2 run triple, an RBI single, a walk, 3 stolen bases and a run scored.  Leadoff and 2nd position hitters Josh Roberge and Zac Hollifield matched up equally each with 2 hits, one RBI, a stolen base, and 2 runs scored.  Dylan Day got his hit with the toy bat (29/20 or something close), had one RBI, scored and stole 3 bases.  Josh Ramsaran walked and scored twice.

A key factor in this contest was team attitude.  While the score was really close at times, we continued to play intensely without tightness due to some great collective cheering.  A little more of that and we will find ourselves quite a force with which to be reckoned.

Game 11   Chaparral 5   Tan Shack Smokies 5 (suspended after 8 innings)

                                  R H E

Chaparral            100 002 02   5 6 4

Tan Shack Smokies    100 000 22   5 8 4

Friday June 12, 2009, Roller Field: On another really nice night for baseball we nearly had this one in the bag.  But the Smokies came through with 2 big hits with one out in the bottom of the 7th that they were able to advance home and tie this one up.  In the top of the 8th we managed 2 more runs on 2 hits but the Smokies were able to do the same in the bottom of the extra frame.  After that our umpires insisted it was time to go home, so this game remains suspended with the completion date and time to be determined.

Hunter Tester was the beast on the mound for the first 7 innings, allowing only 1 earned run and striking out 10 while scattering 8 hits and walking 3.  In the 4th, we gave up two hits but still faced the minimum.  This was due to a nice Dylan Day catch in short centerfield followed by his throw to Colin Ice that was easily able to catch the runner who was attempting to steal 3rd for a double play, and a throw from catcher Zac Hollifield with a slap the helmet tag by Dylan Day which retired another runner attempting to swipe 2nd.

In the 8th Justin Wiseman entered with the score tied and actually got kept our hopes alive with 4 consecutive strikeouts being that the first one reached first base after striking out on a wild curve ball.

Offensively Dylan Day scored 3 of our 5 runs, all of them with aggressive baserunning after throwing errors.   Hunter Tester also scored twice, once on an infield hit from Josh Ramsaran, and again after stealing both 2nd and 3rd and getting home on a passed ball.

On the evening, Dylan Day hit a double and a single and Zac Hollifield added a pair of infield singles, and Wesley Smith also ripped a nice line drive hit to right field.

Overall, this proved to be a really great effort to evenly match up to the league's current top team.

Game 10   Chaparral 6   East Tenn Rent-Alls 8

                                 R H E

Chaparral              402 000   6 7 6

East Tenn Rent-Alls    031 22x   8 4 5

Tuesday June 9, 2009, Seaver Field: On a warm evening this game started and ended with a pop out caught in foul territory.  In between, we offered some good hitting and running, but unfortunately our fielding let us down again in bottom of the 5th when 3 errors allowed the 2 deciding runs to both reach and score.

In the 1st inning after that first pop out, catcher Zac Hollifield got the first of his 2 hits, advanced to 3rd on Mitchell Wilber's single and then scored on a wild pitch.  Mitchell then scored on a Hunter Tester double and Hunter scored on a Justin Wiseman single.  Justin also scored on an error to give us a 4-0 lead.

On the mound Justin Wiseman started and worked a perfect 1st inning, getting 3 ground balls (one misplayed) and a pop up.  But in the 2nd, the first 2 batters got hit by pitches and after an error and a walk, 3 runs came across without a hit.

In our 3rd, Mitchell Wilber drew a leadoff walk and scored on a ball Hunter Tester hit hard right by the 2nd baseman for what was finally ruled an RBI single and his 2nd hit of the evening.  Hunter later scored on Justin Wiseman's 2nd RBI single of the contest.

Connor Williams worked the 3rd inning, allowing 1 run on 2 hits and striking out 2.  Josh Roberge entered in relief in the bottom of the 4th and pitched quite effectively through the 5th as well allowing only 1 hit and 1 walk and striking out 2.

We were quite close in this competitive game and only needed 1 or 2 more good plays to prevail, but tonight it just wasn't to be.

Monday June 8, 2009, Seaver Field: On yet another perfect evening for baseball we started slowly and behind but kept improving both offensively and defensively to claim this game decisively.  Dylan Day got the complete game victory that was limited to 5 innings due to the 2 hour time limit.  Dylan scattered 4 hits, 2 walks and struck out 10 and only 2 of their runs were earned.

Offensively Josh Roberge, Dylan Day, and Hunter Tester each had 2 hits for 2 RBIs.  Dylan and Hunter each doubled while Josh added a stolen base and scored 3 times.  Mitchell Wilber and Connor Williams each added base hits.  Gabe Hirsch added a pair of walks and scored twice.  Colin Ice also walked, stole a base, and scored.

Tuesday June 2, 2009, Roller Field: On this beautiful evening for baseball we appeared to be in control as our 4 to 2 lead after 3 was stretched in the 5th to a 7 to 3 lead.  But it wasn't to be this night as 4 fielding errors in the final 2 innings allowed Press the 5 runs they would need to beat us.

Mitchell Wilber threw all 7 innings, allowing just 4 earned runs on 9 hits, 1 hit batsman and no bases on balls.  Mitchell struck out 10 hitters and really deserved the W this night.  But we just played very tight at key moments and couldn't support him with the outs on ground balls that would have put this one away.

We did have a couple defensive bright spots.  Shortstop Connor Williams went deep in the hole and backhanded a grounder and fired a strike to first for a truly spectacular play.  Third baseman Jared Reyes also dove at a grounder far toward pitcher's mound, came up with it and completed the throw to first for a key out.

Offensively, Mitchell Wilber again led our hitting, this night with 3 singles for 4 RBIs with a pair of stolen bases.  Josh Roberge added a double and scored twice.  Jared Reyes also pounded a 2 run single to right field and stole a base.  Justin Wiseman and Josh Ramsaran also had singles.  Dylan Day walked 3 times, scored twice and had 2 stolen bases.  Connor Williams walked twice and scored once.  Colin Ice and Gabe Hirsch each walked and scored once.

Thursday May 28, 2009, Roller Field:  This game too would likely have been different if the weather would have allowed us our final 34 minutes of play.  As it was the rains came with 2 outs in the top of the 6th (with the top of our order at bat) so officially this game ended after just 5 innings.

Our run came in the first as Mitchell Wilber singled, stole 2nd, and was off and running again on the 2 strike pitch Hunter Tester drove through the left side for an RBI single.  Jared Reyes had our other hit in the contest.

In the field Jared Reyes made a difficult catch in left field.  Hunter Tester worked the first 2 innings, giving up 1 run on 3 hits, no walks and striking out 2.  Dylan Day pitched the next two, giving up 2 unearned runs on 3 hits while striking out 2 and walking 1.  Connor Williams threw what turned out to be the final frame, walking the bases loaded but getting also getting a popup to 1st and a pair of strikeouts to keep the inning scoreless and the game close.

To win this tournament we must now find a way to win six games in a row in 3 days starting on Saturday.

Wednesday May 27, 2009, Roller Field:  This game also started very dark and cloudy and the rains began during the 20 minutes we did get to play before a lightning delay halted play after just 1 inning.   Then while we waited the field took enough rain to become unplayable and we had to retreat to retry on Thursday.

Josh Roberge started this would be game with a hard single past the 3rd baseman and ended up scoring on a wild pitch.  Hunter Tester pitched a perfect start also with a popup he handled himself, a strikeout, and a comebacker.  But as only 1 inning was played, these results get erased everywhere but in a log such as this...

Tuesday May 26, 2009, Roller Field:  This game started out dark and cloudy but got really sunny and really close in score by the late innings.  Starting and winning pitcher Justin Wiseman fired 3 shutout innings spreading out 5 hits and striking out 4.  The double play was our friend in the 2nd when 2 no out singles were reduced to a single runner with 2 outs thanks to a Josh Roberge catch in centerfield that was quickly relayed to Dylan Day covering 2nd to retire the lead runner.  Jordon Dugger made a nice play to get the first hitter in the 3rd by going way to his right for a ground ball near 2nd base and completing the throw to first.

Dylan Day worked scoreless 4th and 5th innings, but ended up allowing 4 runs in the 6th on a strikeout wild pitch and 4 hits.  Mitchell Wilber came out to work the 7th with a 2 run lead, got 2 quick ground ball outs, gave up a homer, and then after a pair of ground ball errors, got our final out and a pitching Save with a called strike three.

Offensively Josh Roberge led our charge with an RBI double and 2 singles to go 3-for-3.  Dylan Day added a double and a single also.   Jared Reyes drove in our 1st two runs in the 3rd with a big hit.  Mitchell Wilber and Hunter Tester also had base hits.

Tuesday May 19, 2009, Seaver Field:  In this one our bats came alive for a 4 run rally in the top of the 3rd.  Jared Reyes led off with an infield single followed by the same from Connor Williams which was then followed by an RBI triple of the bat of Dylan DayDylan then scored on Mitchell Wilber's infield single.  Hunter Tester added a hit to move Mitchell around to 3rd from where he scored on a wild pitch.

Mitchell Wilber pitched very effectively for 6 innings striking out 10, and allowing only 3 unearned runs to come from one 1 hit, 1 walk, and 1 hit batter.  A trio of fielding errors in the bottom of the 6th allowed 2 runs to score and pull this contest to a 7-3 score as we started our side of the 7th.

But on this night, 4 hits, 5 walks, and 2 hit batters later we'd put up 9 more runs, and moved this outcome to a near certainty.

Dylan Day came out to the mound to work the bottom of the 7th, and allowed only 1 unearned run on 1 hit with a strikeout.

Offensively, we were led by Mitchell Wilber, who hit a double and 2 singles for 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored.  Jared Reyes had two hits and scored twice.  Josh Roberge also had a pair of singles and Justin Wiseman added one.

Monday May 18, 2009, Seaver Field:  Tonight our pitching and fielding were nearly perfect - only one fielding error and only 1 base on balls plus one hit batter.  Together with some great catches, it was enough tonight to shut out a worthy opponent.

Winning Pitcher Hunter Tester fired the complete 7-inning game shutout 3 hitter while racking up 17 (yes SEVENTEEN!) strikeouts.  Hunter was nearly perfect with location all night long, walking just one batter, hitting another and throwing just a single wild pitch.

The remaining 4 outs, which did not come by strikeout were very important to preserving this victory.  Shortstop Dylan Day caught a pop up in the 1st and a looping line drive to end the top of  the 7th.  In the 3rd all with 2 outs, Coke hit a single, drew a walk, and we had a fielder's choice go to 2nd, but the runner beat the throw allowing everyone to be safe.  The next hitter put one up into shallow left-center field, where centerfielder Jared Reyes was able to go a long way and make the catch, saving us from allowing the runs which may have beaten us.

In the 4th, Josh Ramsaran drifted under a fly ball in left field and made a nice catch.  Also in that inning Justin Wiseman also made a surperb play on a difficult short hop to retire a runner attempting to reach 1st after a strikeout pitch got to the fence behind home plate.

After retiring Coke in the top of the 7th, our team just seemed to know what it had to do, and we got it done.  All with one out, Josh Roberge hit a grounder that short hopped the shortstop and allowed him to reach 1st base.  Next he was attempting to steal 2nd as Dylan Day hit a looping liner right toward the 2nd baseman.  The ball was nearly caught but finally dropped allowing Josh to get safely to 2nd and Dylan to 1st.   Then catcher Mitchell Wilber hit a hard grounder to second, but it too was misplayed leaving the bases loaded.  Hunter Tester was at the plate ready to hit, but early in his at bat, a wild pitch sailed over everyone at the plate, and Josh Roberge was able to scoot home to claim our W.

Saturday May 16, 2009, Seaver Field:  On this spring day it felt more like summer and it also felt like a baseball team was in the park.  Our pitching, fielding, and hitting were all adequate to claim victory this day.

Mitchell Wilber started on the mound with a pair ground balls he handled himself for 2 quick outs.  Then after a pair of infield singles and a walk loaded the bases, a well timed strikeout retired the side.  In the 2nd we got out of a 1st and 3rd two out situation by an alert throw toward the stealing runner from catcher Dylan Day that instead went right back to Mitchell and fooled the 3rd base runner into a pickle and the final out.

Justin Wiseman came to the hill in the 3rd inning.  The leadoff hitter walked, but this runner was quickly erased as 2nd baseman Jared Reyes took a grounder near 2nd base, stepped on the bag and completed the throw to first for a double play.  The 4th inning was similar as a 1 out single was erased when 2nd baseman Colin Ice caught a popup and found the baserunner far enough away from first to complete an easy double play.

Connor Williams fired the final 3 frames, striking out 5, surrendering just 2 runs on a hit and 4 walks.

Offensively, Dylan Day led the charge with 2 doubles, 1 RBI and 2 runs scored.  Mitchell Wilber hit a double and an RBI single.  Josh Roberge singled and scored twice.  Hunter Tester and Jordon Dugger had our other hits and each scored also.

Friday May 15, 2009, Roller Field:  On either side of a couple of lightning delays and after an inning and a half of play in this one we'd fallen behind 10-2.  From that point on we won 10-3 but we ended up just one good thing short of turning this one around.

We outhit the Lions 8-6 and actually got out-walked by the same count 8-6.  But they only left 4 on base vs. our 7 which was enough this night to deny us.  One more inning and we certainly would have taken this one, but as it was play was stopped after just 4 innings.

Mitchell Wilber led our effort with three hits including a double for 4 RBIs, 3 stolen bases, and 3 runs scored.  Dylan Day, Hunter Tester, and Josh Roberge each had 2 stolen bases and each scored twice.  Zac Hollifield had a nice RBI single and scored.  Jordon Dugger and Colin Ice each singled and scored as well.

Tan Shack      000 230 3    8 9 5

Chaparral      021 100 0    4 2 4

Thursday May 14, 2009, Roller Field:  No magic come from behind win tonight.  In fact quite the opposite as this one slipped away while we simply struggled to hit, to field, and throw strikes.  We were outhit by the Tan Shack 9 to 2 and we made up for it by giving up 9 walks/hit batters vs. receiving only 2 and also giving up 7 wild pitches to reduce our force play opportunities.  Officially we were charged with 4 fielding errors, but also there were a few other plays which should have been made.

But there were some bright spots:  Dylan Day started on the mound and threw 3 shutout innings including the 3rd where we got out of a 2 on base 1 out spot with a nice comebacker which then went to Hunter Tester and to Mitchell Wilber for a 1-6-3 double play.   In the 2nd, Josh Roberge at 3rd base made a great backhanded catch of a line drive.  In the 5th Wesley Smith moved under and made a nice catch in right field.  And in the 6th, Zac Hollifield came from 1st base way to the fence to catch a foul popup.

Offensively, our only highlights were an infield single by Dylan Day, an RBI grounder by Jordon Dugger, and a triple deep to centerfield off the bat of Josh RobergeJosh came into score on the play when a relay throwing error was made by the defense.

Right now, our team just needs to relax and play the game better on the fundamentals.  Hitting, pitching, fielding, throwing.  Keep your head in the game, do your best, accept the results, and focus on how best to help the team on the next play.

Monday May 11, 2009, Seaver Field:  Wow, a come from behind and marathon nail biter took place on this cool evening!  We got outhit 5 to 2, but still somehow managed the win with some great pitching when we needed it.

Justin Wiseman started on the mound and gave us 4 good innings, allowing 3 runs on 3 hits while striking out 8 and walking 5.

Mitchell Wilber relieved Justin in the 5th and worked 3 innings, striking out 5, hitting one batter with a pitch, and yielding just 2 unearned runs on 2 mediocre hits just barely over our infielders.

Offensively, in our 2nd, Mitchell Wilber singled, stole 2nd, and scored on a pair of wild pitches.  In the 3rd, Gabe Hirsch drew a walk and later scored from 2nd on Dylan Day's RBI single.  In our 5th, we managed to get our 3 runs to tie the game due to an error and 4 walks.

In the bottom of the 7th with the score tied at 5, Josh Roberge drew a leadoff walk and then Jordon Dugger promptly hit a hard grounder right down the 3rd base line.  Putting it in play made good things happen as an errant throw allowed Josh to not only be safe at 2nd but then advance all the way home as retrieving the ball in the outfield proved difficult for the Bobcats.

Team values of never giving up and sticking together in spite of our mistakes and challenges were definitely gained in this game.

Game 1 Chaparral 10  Evergreen Terrace 8

Chaparral      201 313  10 12 4

Evergreen      010 052   8  6 3

Saturday May 9, 2009, Seaver Field:  This game started off well for Chaparral as with two outs in the top of the first Dylan Day got a hit, stole 2nd and came home on Mitchell Wilber's RBI single.  Mitchell took 2nd after an errant pick off attempt and then scored also on Justin Wiseman's RBI single.

Dylan added another 2 out single in the 3rd and again scored on a Mitchell Wilber RBI single.

In the 4th, Josh Ramsaran led off with a single and Hunter Tester reached on an error.  Jared Reyes then delivered a big 2 run single and then scored on an RBI single from the bat of Connor Williams

Dylan Day highlighted the afternoon in our 5th with a leadoff HOME RUN over the left field fence.

In the 6th, we were holding just a one run lead, but Hunter Tester's single and Dylan Day's double (his 4th hit of the afternoon) ended up driving in the 3 runs we would need to hold this victory.

In the field, winning pitcher Dylan Day worked 4 and 2/3 innings, striking out 5, issuing 6 walks, and allowing just 2 earned runs on 5 hits.  Hunter Tester earned a save, striking out the last batter of the 5th with 2 on base.  He then finished the game in the 6th inning, allowing a total of 2 walks and a hit batter and a "hit" which was a pop up that only fell to the ground due to some deception from the offensive team.

Game 0 Jamboree Scrimmage       Chaparral vs Evergreen Terrace

Chaparral      305 x      8 5 0

Evergreen      100 0      1 1 5

Saturday May 2, 2009:  Moderate temperatures and light rain set the backdrop for this umpired scrimmage.  Mitchell Wilber got us going in the top of the first with a single and a stolen base.  Mitchell then scored on Dylan Day's RBI double.  Dylan scored on a wild pitch as did Jared Reyes who had walked.  Zac Hollifield added a hit in the inning.

Josh Ramsaran led off our 2nd with a double but was unable to score.  In the 3rd we scored our first 5 hitters who where put on base with 4 walks and an error.  Zac Hollifield added an RBI single for his 2nd hit of the afternoon.

Defensively we looked pretty good.  No errors but not much real action either.  Dylan Day worked 2 innings striking out 2, walking 3 and allowing just 1 hit for 1 earned run.  Josh Roberge pitched a perfect 3rd with a strikeout and 2 pop ups.  He also got a pop up and issued a walk in the 4th before play was halted due to the time.
